Business websites, rebuilds & custom web apps

A website built around the work.

I build business websites, replace aging sites, and develop custom web apps with calendars, forms, accounts, and staff tools. Start with what your customers or team need to do. I’ll help work out the right size of build.

Business websites.

Clear pages, your real work and photos, and a layout that works on a phone. Give visitors the essentials and an easy way to contact you. They shouldn’t need a guided tour.

Legacy site migrations.

An older site can still have plenty worth keeping. Carry the useful content and photos forward, map important old links, and get the replacement ready before moving the domain.

Forms & inquiries.

Contact, quote, or estimate workflows that collect the details your team needs. Attachments, email delivery, validation, and spam protection are scoped around the project.

Content & staff tools.

Give the right people tools to update menus, publish photos, manage bookings, or post announcements. Agree on access and review steps so an everyday update can stay an everyday task.

Custom web apps.

Build around a workflow that a brochure site cannot handle. Calendars, guest contributions, galleries, and connected records can share a public interface and dedicated management tools.

Launch & ongoing updates.

Prepare page metadata, search discovery, domain launch, and a maintainable publishing workflow. Hosting, recurring services, and ongoing changes receive an agreed scope and schedule.

Custom websites & applications

Build the experience your idea needs.

A music venue needs a calendar its team can maintain. A social game needs accounts, shared activity, photos, and a reason to come back. The useful features depend on the people using the thing. That’s where I start.

These projects are scoped and quoted individually. We work through the public experience, the tools behind it, and the ongoing requirements together, then agree on a practical plan for development and launch.

Public accounts & participation.

Sign-up and sign-in, personal dashboards, shared activity, and user contributions. Define what people can see and do, how content is reviewed, and what stays private.

Staff tools & business workflows.

Editable menus, bookings, galleries, announcements, and role-based access. Give your team tools shaped around their jobs, with review steps and safeguards for shared work.

Progressive web apps & connected features.

Installable app experiences, notifications, maps, media, and integrations where they serve the product. Device and browser support, permissions, and ongoing service costs are part of the plan.

Two projects show how far a custom build can go.

Janey’s live custom coffee house and music website

Client project · Live

Janey’s: the website and the work behind it.

A welcoming public site connected to a custom music calendar, editable menus, artist profiles, and guest photo sharing. Invited staff use tools assigned to their roles to maintain the content and review contributions.

Bookings, photos, and artists connect across the site. Content review, a readable change history, and checks for conflicting edits support the team’s everyday work. The site is live at Janey’s existing domain, with legacy links redirected and staff tools ready for everyday updates.

BarTag homepage showing the social web app’s world of shared activity

Independent project · Public beta

BarTag: a complete app for public users.

An original Android game rebuilt as a progressive web app (PWA), with public user accounts and an installable experience. Friends participate in shared Rounds, post photo Proofs, and connect the game to real-world places.

Personal dashboards, maps, email and browser notifications, account preferences, and administration tools support the experience. Active Rounds are private to authorized participants; selected completed activity can become public stories.

BarTag is Bill’s own project, designed, built, and maintained as an independent product.

From idea to a working product

Start with the people and the workflow.

Send your current website address, a few examples of the content or workflow involved, and the thing you want to make easier. Include your budget and any timing constraints. We’ll work out who needs it, what they need to do, and what belongs in a useful first version.

The plan covers public pages, account roles, content and data, integrations, and any migration work. We agree on scope, milestones, review points, and launch preparation before development begins.

Custom software also needs care after launch. Hosting, paid services, maintenance, and future improvements are discussed as part of the project, with work scheduled by agreement.

More website work

Make the next customer inquiry easier.

A focused business website can still have a purpose-built workflow. These rebuilds connect service information and real project photography to a useful next step.

Choose a starting point

Clear scope before the build.

My standard business website packages start at $400 USD for Basics, $600 for Standard, and $1,500 for Premium. The homepage lists the page limits, features, and revision rounds for each one.

Premium includes the published website features, such as articles and an editable gallery. Public user accounts, a custom calendar or booking system, and business workflows receive their own scope and quote. Shopify projects and complex migrations are also quoted individually. Hosting and domain fees are separate; paid third-party services are agreed in advance.

Work is scheduled by agreement. Tell me what you run today, what needs to change, and any timing constraints so we can agree on a practical approach and I can confirm availability.

Planning your project

A few useful questions.

Do I need a website package or a custom build?

The website packages cover the published page limits and features. If you need public user accounts, a custom calendar, integrations, or a workflow for your team, we scope those requirements individually. Tell me what people need to do; I’ll help you choose a starting point.

Can I keep my domain and useful content?

Yes, a rebuild can retain your domain and carry forward the content and photos worth keeping. We review important old URLs, plan redirects where appropriate, and prepare the replacement before the domain launch. Domain and account access are arranged as part of that plan.

Will I be able to make changes myself?

That depends on the agreed build. Premium includes articles, an editable photo gallery, and editor training. Other staff tools and editing workflows are scoped around the project. For a simpler site, you can request changes and agree on the work separately.

What does your website need to do?

Tell me what your site needs to do and what currently takes more effort than it should. We’ll work out a useful starting point.
