Hear the music. Find the next show.

Dan Emrey’s website already had music, a show calendar, a biography, and a booking form. I worked with him to make those essentials easier to find and use, especially on a phone, while giving his existing Wix site a more consistent identity.

The starting point

Keep the music. Clear the path to it.

Dan is a Pennsylvania-born singer-songwriter and solo acoustic performer based in Arizona, available for performances across the U.S. Visitors come to hear his music, find a show, or ask about a booking. The site had all three, but oversized headings, seven homepage players, repeated forms, and leftover template content made the route less direct.

The work started with an audit of the existing site. A practical problem surfaced in the calendar: Los Angeles time caused a winter Arizona show to appear an hour early. The cleanup addressed that alongside the page layouts, copy, and navigation.

What changed

Three useful routes through the site.

For listeners and venues

  • A short introduction and four music samples on the homepage.
  • Photo links to Shows and About, with a route to more tracks.
  • Visible mobile navigation and an underline on the current page.
  • Readable, left-aligned copy and more compact mobile spacing.

Behind the presentation

  • An upcoming-show schedule in place of the month grid.
  • Arizona time for the embedded calendar.
  • The original Contact form retained as the booking destination.
  • Individual search descriptions, sharing images, and artist information.

Getting the time right

A show calendar needs the right hour.

The calendar used Los Angeles time, which changes with daylight saving time. A November 20 Arizona show advertised as 6–9 p.m. appeared as 5–8 p.m. Switching the display to America/Phoenix corrected the published time while keeping the existing Google Calendar connection and source events.

The schedule view puts upcoming events in a list and sits higher on the mobile Shows page. Long venue names can still truncate inside the embed; opening an event reveals its details. Explicit venue-local times would be a useful next step for performances outside Arizona.

Making it feel like Dan

An owl with a place in the story.

Dan brings an owl lamp to his shows. Its photograph became a black-and-white image rising above the footer’s red rule, a personal detail that connects the website to his live performances. The owl also appears in the sharing artwork and a simplified favicon.

His distressed white logo and red accents set the direction. Matching red rules connect the header and footer; white dividers break up the content. Testimonials use white quotation text with gold attribution. Dan and I continued refining the photography, with black-and-white images on the homepage and the owl carried into mobile.

The sharing artwork brings the logo, owl, and performance message together for links to the site.

The details that connect it

One voice. A clearer next step.

Dan preferred third-person copy. That voice now runs through the introduction, biography, booking text, and search descriptions, keeping his Pennsylvania roots, Arizona home base, and nationwide availability clear.

Repeated public forms were removed outside Contact, while the original five-field Contact form and CAPTCHA stayed in place. The unfinished Videos page was retired, and the footer’s social links were reduced to Facebook at Dan’s direction.

Home, Music, Shows, About, and Contact received individual search titles and descriptions, updated social metadata, and a common sharing image. About also received structured artist information. Published metadata and favicon references were checked on the live site.

The result

A more focused home for the music.

The published site brings together clearer mobile pages, corrected Arizona show times, more direct navigation, and a consistent visual identity. The cleanup preserved Dan’s existing calendar source, Contact form, submission history, and CMS records.

Desktop and mobile layouts were reviewed, with live checks of the published pages and metadata. A controlled test of contact-form delivery and acknowledgment remains outstanding. Booking, traffic, and cost changes have not been measured.
